مرحبا بكم جميعا

Welcome!

My love of languages extends to art and manifests across mediums.  Charcoal came first -always an underlying sketch or concept peering through. The constant push and pull of learning, experimenting, and seeing marry only with unrelenting practice.  In the background, an inner rhythm plays.  Every mark, every color, every decision is yours alone.  It's the most eloquent act of rebellion as an individual and an unexpected connection with the viewer.

At last, I began to consider my mind's disorder a sacred thing.

About Miriam

Miriam Awad is an American-Egyptian abstract artist currently living in Stockholm. With a simultaneous career in public service, she is a creative spirit moonlighting in the world of foreign affairs.

Miriam's work explores the space between drawing and painting and surfs the edge of abstract and figurative. Her process builds on charcoal sketches and building dimension through figures. Through constant experimentation, she captures lyricism in repetition and underwater motion inspired by a love of diving.

Miriam studied figure drawing in California and developed her practice with inks and charcoal. Cherry blossoms will often surface in her work as a proud D.C. native. Work will contain symbols from traveling and living in other countries.

Inspirations include music, the New York School, Magritte, Miro, surrealism,19th century French noir artists (Courbet, Redon), Zao Wou-Ki, Hokusai, Alexander McQueen, Egyptian art, reptiles, and coral.

Miriam has exhibited in Washington, DC, Stockholm, and on Artsy.
